THE LONELY DANAU TOBA …..HORAS !

My family in front of Danau Toba waterfall. The big volume of water is coming out right from the underground, not from a river.

A spectacular view of Danau Toba in the morning. The largest lake in South East Asia ( 87 km x 15 km x 452 m)

The whole troop of my husband’s staff.

A skinny dipping boy tried to catch the coins he asked for. The number of tourists came to Toba Lake depreciated tremendously (98%) has directly affected the locals source of income. This beautiful place has become so lonely……

JOGJA BERADAT LUMAYAN

23th Nov, 2007 was my 2nd visit to JOGjakarta, to attend Ita Qonita's wedding, my neighbour's youngest sister.

The extraordinary view of Merapi (active volcano) at 5 am from Novotel Hotel, stirred the memory of my1st trip here. It was nicely chilled up there even though the hot smoke was flowing out of its peak all the time.

Me and my hubby posed with the bride and bridegroom, also their parents on the wedding isle (above). This luxurious javanese isle was made out of delicately craved wood. The isle was setup at the outside of the house and well decorated with fresh flowers and life plants.

The "majlis hantaran' was held at night on the 24th. The two families and their relatives met with each other. The bridegroom came with the hantaran which most of them were 'kue'. The representatives from each families introduced the family members in their reception speech.

The next morning, the 'akad nikah' ceremony was done in a mosque not far from the bride's house. Before the akad, the guest were given the flyer which reminded about the responsibilities of a husband and a wife. The tok kadi read it to everybody. The kadi was almost bursed into tears as he mentioned the handover of the bride from her parents to the bridegroom. The kadi used to be a best friend of the bride's father who already passed away 6 years ago!

The trip was honoured with the present of Sultan Azlan Shah's best friend, DAtuk Karim(in white) and his wife , Datin Maimunah (in pink) , who happen to be my neighbours too.

HANOI OF MY BAD DREAMS

These are among the photos taken during my family's 4 days visit to Hanoi, Vietnam, starting 23 Aug, 2007. Above was the view along the road to Ha Long Bay, one of best tourist destinations in Hanoi.

I was about to sail on the wooden boat to a big cave in Ha Long Bay island. There were many boats at the jetty waiting to take tourists for that kind of tour. You could take the boat for half a day tour but if you decided to stay overnight on the boat, there would be an aircon bedroom available ... and food was served for you. For moslem, pls make sure to request for HALAL food!

Enjoying the sailing! In front of me is a wife of my husband's classmate in Teknik Ipoh, Linda. She lives in Nilai and has a boutique at Ampang Point KL.

One of unique thing about Hanoi is they know how to make a nice panoramic picture out of embroidry tecnique. This was the place were the vietnamese postwar victims working to make a fine hand-made embroidry. The price could go up to USD2000 a piece! One thing all of us should know... vietnamese loves doing business in USD instead of Dong, their own currency.

In front of Ho Chin Minh Musoleum, a big vietnamese knight grave. It contains only the body of vietnamese well-known leader, Ho Chin Minh. To enter this heavily guarded building, you could only bring along your purse. Quiet please! You would enter a dimmed interior and in the middle of the hall, laid the body of Ho Chin Minh with two lights focused on his face and hands. Looked like a manequin at first, but when I really looked at it, it was a real man's body. His white beard was well-kept and he was wearing like a lieutenant suit.

My Hanoi bad dreams came from my tour guide, Linh. She wasn't professional as a tour guide and very unhelpful. A little bit egoist, i guess. Her english was not that good. Always taking us to places that sold expensive things. The restaurants she picked weren't satisfying and expensive. I ended up having diahrea a day before flying back to Msia. I had to take 2 days mc to recover.
